How much paint, exactly

Enter room dimensions — we compute wall area, subtract doors and windows, optionally add the ceiling, multiply by coats, and divide by your paint's coverage rate. Gallons to buy (rounded to half-gallons) plus optional cost.

Frequently asked questions

How much paint per square foot?

About 350 ft² per gallon for one coat on smooth walls. Porous or first-time paint needs ~20–30% more — that's why we default to 2 coats.

Do I count the ceiling?

Only if painting it — tick the box. Ceilings drink paint (same area as the floor) and are often forgotten in estimates.

Why subtract doors and windows?

A door is ~21 ft², a window ~12 ft². On a small room they meaningfully reduce paint needed.

One coat or two?

Two, almost always — color depth and durability. One coat is only for same-color refreshes.
